Art or Algorithm
Written in 2024. Archived as part of my body of work.
I love diving into technology and exploring the mechanics of how our world works—it’s endlessly fascinating for me…. But every now and then, I come across a piece of art—a painting, a moving piece of music, or an intriguing work of literature. It reminds me there is more to life than just understanding the mechanics of it.
Yes, technology and finance keep the world running, but it’s art that makes it worth living in. Don’t you think?
Feeding the soul is just as important as building the future. Throughout history, art has been humanity’s mirror, reflecting our deepest emotions, aspirations, and struggles. From the cave paintings of Lascaux to the masterpieces of the Renaissance to many forms of modern contemporary art.
While it is easy to look at Art as a form of aesthetics, the fact is that it challenges, inspires, and connects us. During times of turmoil, it offers solace. In moments of triumph, it amplifies celebration. Murals and wall graffiti have sparked revolutions. Literature has literally reshaped societies, and music has both unified and divided generations.
It has the power to make us pause, reflect, and feel deeply in ways that data or technology alone cannot.
Lately, I’ve been pondering a question, and I’m sure many of you are too: At what point does AI-generated work become art in its own right, rather than just the output of a complex tool designed by humans?
Take Ai-Da’s ‘AI God,’ for example—a creation that recently sold for over $1 million. It raises fascinating questions about the nature of creativity and what truly inspires art. Is it the algorithm, the data it’s trained on, or the human who built the system and set its parameters?
In a world where technology and creativity are increasingly intertwined, this feels like a conversation we all need to have. What do you think—are we witnessing the rise of a new kind of artist, or is AI just another tool in the hands of human creators? Is AI the new paintbrush? A paintbrush with opinions and ideas of its own?
