Despite Canada having an impressive track record of groundbreaking innovations kicking off on its soil, many of these breakthroughs aren’t widely recognized as “Made in Canada.”

While Canada is not often in the Global Spotlight for Technology… It has played a pivotal role in developing technologies that have reshaped industries worldwide.

📞 The Telephone

Yes, the device that revolutionized global communication was born in Canada. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone while living in Brantford, Ontario—a historic moment that forever changed the world.

☕ Java Programming Language

One of the most widely used programming languages globally is Java, which was created by James Gosling, a computer scientist from Calgary. Today, Java powers everything from mobile apps to enterprise systems.

🎥 IMAX

The jaw-dropping cinematic experience we all love was invented in Toronto, Ontario. In the 1960s, Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, and Robert Kerr developed IMAX technology, today a global entertainment standard.

💉 Insulin

A medical breakthrough that has saved millions of lives, insulin was first successfully purified for medical use at the University of Toronto by Frederick Banting and Charles Best.

Before the era of iPhones and Androids, there was BlackBerry—the iconic mobile device that revolutionized business communication. Developed in Waterloo, Ontario, it set the stage for today’s smartphone dominance.
